Announcement: Want To Get Out Of Kansas, Dorothy?

The Wizard of Oz is my favourite-of-all-time classic movie.  Back in the day - before VCRs, DVDs and PVR - we’d eagerly anticipate when it would be aired on TV, just once or twice a year.  Popcorn was popped and pyjamas were pulled on, and we’d pile onto the couch for a 3-hour adventure into the worlds of Kansas and Oz.  I dreamed of owning my own pair of ruby slippers.  (I do have a pair now, but that’s another story…).

The symbolism of that movie has struck a deeper and deeper chord with me over the years, and it’s part of the inspiration behind the program I’m launching today.  It’s one that I’m SUPER-excited about, and there’s more on that below.

But first, I have a question for you:

Dorothy & Toto - Wizard of Oz

Do YOU ever feel like Dorothy in Kansas, stranded in a black and white life where nobody understands you, or you feel a bit lost and out of place?  Has something you love – or maybe even your very passion for living – ever disappeared, or been taken from you (kind of like Dorothy’s dog, Toto, was taken from her)?

When Dorothy’s family tells her to “just give up the dog; there’s nothing we can do about it,” she is forced – no, compelled – to go in search of a life ‘somewhere over the rainbow’, where skies are blue and dreams really do come true.  In the beginning, she doesn’t exactly know what she’s looking for, she only knows that she wants something different.  And then before long - when the world she lands in is so much different than where she came from - all she wants to do is get back home again.

There have been times in my life when I’ve wished that a fairy godmother - like Glinda, the Good Witch of the North - would come rescue me; just float down out of the sky in her glistening pink bubble, give me some ruby slippers, wave her wand and tell me exactly which fork in the yellow brick road to take, to get me where I wanted to go (especially when I wasn’t sure exactly where that was).

Ruby Slippers

Turns out though, it’s not the fairy godmother but the friends – Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion - that Dorothy meets along the way, who help guide her to the land that she heard of once in a lullaby.

But who are her ‘friends’, really?  They’re the same ‘friends’ you have.

The Scarecrow represents your brain, thinking out the logistics and practical pieces, the how-tos, the tools and the strategies you’ll need to get you where you want to go.

The Tin Man is the heart of your decisions.  Checking in with your emotions gives you excellent clues about whether you’re on the right road; a road that will lead you to your heart’s desire.

The Lion is the soul of your dreams, giving you courage when the Haunted Forest of your future looks much too scary and unknown to venture into.  You sometimes want to turn and run back to the comforts of what you know, and the places where you feel safe, but something rises up to push you through your fear, and keep you moving in the direction of your dreams.

Lion, Scarecrow & Tin Man

Dorothy is your hands and feet, the physical part of you that walks the yellow brick road of your choosing, and puts into action the plans of your mind, the yearnings of your heart and the dreams of your soul, out there in the wide wonderful colourful crazy world.

Along the road you’ll encounter lots of different people, whose dreams are every bit as different from one another as Horses of a Different Colour.  But no matter the colour of their horses, they all want the same underlying thing that you do: to live a life of joy and love.  And that’s a life that only your horse, of your favourite colour, can bring to your heart.

Like Dorothy, when she realizes at the end of her journey that she doesn’t ever need to go looking further than her own ‘back yard’ for her heart’s desire, you’ll find the same:  although your heart’s desire might (or might not) have you ‘leave your backyard’ and go to new lands (real or metaphorical) to turn your dreams into reality, you eventually learn that your heart’s desire itself – the dream - was never elsewhere, it was in there all along.  Deep in your heart already lies the soul of your dreams, and the seeds that you need to go out and plant in the world.

The funny thing about your dreams is that they are solely yours to conjure, and yours to bring to life.  Nobody can figure out for you what your dream should be, or how it’s best to come to fruition.  But when you do figure out the dream that’s in your heart, it IS like coming home…and Kansas will never be the same again.  In a good way.

So that brings me to my announcement.

I am thrilled about my upcoming “Do What You Love” Telesymposium, running June 12th – 28th.  I personally would love to live in a world where everyone is doing something that ignites their heart, sparks their mind and stirs their soul, and I’ve brought together some brilliant and passionate people who are doing exactly that, so that we can share how YOU can uncover your heart’s desire and make your dreams come true.

Do What You Love Telesymposium

I’ve structured this event so that everyone who feels called to, is able to participate regardless of your schedule or your financial means.  The Telesymposium is being offered as a series of FREE phone calls that you can dial into from wherever you are.  If you miss the live calls, you’ll be able to listen to the replays for FREE online afterward for 48 hours, and if you want to have the recordings for your personal library as ongoing inspiration and motivation, you can also buy the mp3 collection at a very accessible price.
