Change Your Environment, Change Your Health

If you feel tired, foggy, or “off” and can’t explain why, it might not just be stress or age.

I was reminded what a huge impact spending time in nature can have last summer when I got to spend three weeks walking around Italy with my longtime friend LeeAnn. We were outdoors almost all day, every day—basically only going inside to sleep and shower.


We ate fresh, locally-grown food outdoors, the way Italians have done for generations. We walked cobblestone streets, wandered tiny villages, and shared slow meals under open skies.


With each day spent outdoors, I noticed things shifting in subtle ways...


Physically, I felt stronger and lighter.

Mentally, my mind felt clear and calm.

Emotionally, I felt more joyful and hopeful.


And the wonder and awe of looking across vast, beautiful landscapes has always felt like something of a spiritual experience for me.


My heart felt open and free.


Plus, sharing all of this with a dear friend nurtured our relationship in a way that no text thread ever could.


It all reminded me of the core message of the Optimal Living series: that all aspects of your well-being are interconnected. When you nurture one area—like your environment—it ripples into your body, mind, emotions, spirit, and even your relationships too.
